Li Heidi

Li Hei Di’s paintings open up a tension-filled grey zone between abstraction and figuration, where desire, ambiguity, and sensuality unfold. Through fluid brushstrokes and layered colors, she weaves fragmented bodily elements into dreamlike scenes, creating an atmosphere that is at once erotic and elusive. The recurring presence of limbs, torsos, and faintly visible human forms are not literal depictions of flesh, but symbols of desire, seduction, and intimacy—ghostly figures that drift across the canvas. Having grown up in a conservative family environment, Li continues to explore the repression and release of gender and sexuality in her artistic practice. Her imagery is never fully representational nor entirely abstract, existing instead in a liminal state between transparency and opacity, revelation and disappearance. This “formless” visual language imbues her work with a subtle yet provocative energy, resonating with contemporary discourses on gender, identity, and desire.
